Willow Technology Licenses IBM's MQSeries
Messaging Software
CAMPBELL, California--June 1, 1998--Willow Technology, Inc.
and IBM today announced the signing of a technology licensing agreement which
grants Willow the rights to produce and market worldwide fully compliant
MQSeries server software products.
The agreement expands upon Willow's existing client source
license. Under the new agreement, Willow plans to deliver MQSeries server
products on SCO's platforms, UnixWare and OpenServer, as well as Silicon
Graphics IRIX. Willow also anticipates bringing MQSeries to other operating
system platforms. Willow has produced MQSeries clients for Apple Computer Inc.'s
Mac OS, Silicon Graphics IRIX and Data General DG/UX operating systems.
According to Gary Clueit, CEO of Willow, the heterogeneous
nature of MQSeries is a significant advantage. Willow is committed to ensuring
that MQSeries is available on an increasing number of platforms, without the
need for gateways and special interfaces. "MQSeries is already fairly
ubiquitous and the goal is to make it nearly absolute - the universal 'run
anywhere' middleware. With Willow's emphasis on porting MQ to other platforms,
we hope to help IBM focus on core MQ function enhancements."
Willow plans to begin Beta testing MQSeries for UnixWare
(supporting versions 2.1 and 7) at the end of June and MQSeries for IRIX
(supporting versions 6.2 through 6.5) in the fall. The initial product releases
will support MQSeries v2 level functions with v5 enhancements to follow.
"Through this agreement, Willow Technology will extend
the Business Integration benefits of MQSeries to more customers," said
Colin Osborne, MQSeries Business Executive, IBM Transaction Systems Software.
"Our customers will benefit from the advanced message queuing technology of
IBM's award-winning MQSeries software."
"We applaud the work being done by IBM and Willow to
bring MQSeries to SCO's leading UNIX platforms," said Richard Treadway,
SCO's vice president, Segment Business Development. "MQSeries will provide
our customers with easy access to information and applications across the
enterprise, regardless of platform."
About MQSeries
IBM's MQSeries enables users to
exchange information between different applications, regardless of different
hardware and operating systems, by sending data as messages. The multiple
award-winning software is available on more than 25 different platforms. It
enables application integration throughout the enterprise by use of a simple,
high-level programming interface that shields developers from operating systems
and network complexities and enables them to concentrate on application design.
MQSeries' asynchronous technology assures message delivery even when programs or
networks fail, or the target system is temporarily unavailable. Information
