Willow Technology Extends Its Server Messaging Software Products To
SCO
Latest Version for UnixWare 7 and SCO OpenServer Offers Expanded
Functionality, Discounted Upgrade and Key Element to "Project Monterey"
CAMPBELL, California--November 18, 1998--Willow Technology, Inc.,
the leading independent provider of MQSeries client and server products, today extended
its MQSeries product line with the availability of MQSeries server messaging software for
SCO
(Nasdaq:SCOC) operating systems. The products
are fully compliant with IBM (NYSE:IBM) MQSeries, the award-winning
industry leader in messaging middleware technology.
The new Willow products are based on code licensed from IBM and provide MQSeries V2
server level function. They replace the obsolete MQSeries V1 products for SCO, previously
marketed by IBM. Willow plans to upgrade their product for SCO UnixWare 7 to MQSeries V5
early in 1999.
"We are excited to add to our MQSeries products, particularly on SCO platforms,
which are a critical element of many customers systems," said Gary Clueit, CEO of
Willow. "The strategic importance of this announcement recently received a major
boost with the Project Monterey announcements from IBM and SCO. With Project Monterey, the
two companies concluded a business and development agreement in which IBM will use
UnixWare 7 as their key UNIX system on today's Intel IA-32 environments and that SCO and
IBM will jointly develop a UNIX system for IA-64 platforms."
"By providing MQSeries on SCO platforms, Willow Technology broadens the messaging
foundation for customers dealing with business integration issues," said Colin
Osborne, worldwide business executive for MQSeries, IBM Software. "Willow's products
are particularly timely in view of IBM's recognition of the importance of SCO UnixWare 7
to future UNIX plans."
"The growing list of key enterprise applications and middleware for UnixWare 7 is
great news for our customers," said Richard Treadway, vice president of Segment
Marketing and Business Development at SCO. "MQSeries for UnixWare 7 is one of the
significant ports identified in our recently announced relationship with IBM, and provides
our customers with reliable messaging and communication across heterogeneous enterprise
environments. It's also great news for our OpenServer customers transitioning to UnixWare
7 as applications developed for MQSeries for OpenServer can run unmodified on UnixWare
7."
Pricing and Availability
Willow's MQSeries for UnixWare runs with both versions 2.1.x and 7.x of the operating
system, and is available immediately.
MQSeries for SCO OpenServer requires SCO OpenServer version 5.0.2 or later with the
Universal Development Kit OSRCompat module, and will ship on December 15, 1998.
Both products are initially available for the English, French, German and Spanish
language markets. US list prices start at $3,500 for a single CPU system. Willow is
offering upgrade discounts to customers who acquired MQSeries V1 products from IBM prior
to November 15, 1998.
About MQSeries
IBM's MQSeries enables users to exchange information between different applications,
regardless of different hardware and operating systems, by sending data as messages. The
multiple award-winning software is available on more than 25 different platforms. It
enables application integration throughout the enterprise by use of a simple, high-level
programming interface that shields developers from operating systems and network
complexities and enables them to concentrate on application design. MQSeries' asynchronous
technology assures message delivery even when programs or networks fail, or the target
system is temporarily unavailable. Information about MQSeries can be found at the MQSeries
