WILLOW TECHNOLOGY ANNOUNCES
ADDITIONAL MQSERIES PLATFORMS
Company adds DYNIX/ptx and Linux
for non-Intel x86 platforms to the company’s MQSeries product portfolio.
LAS VEGAS, Nevada--June 12, 2000--Willow Technology, Inc., the leading
independent provider of MQSeries client and server products, announced today at
the MQSeries Technical Conference that it has concluded an agreement with IBM (NYSE:IBM)
to assume responsibility for MQSeries for the DYNIX/ptx operating system, and
will also produce MQSeries for Linux on platforms other than Intel x86
architecture.
MQSeries for the DYNIX/ptx operating system was previously marketed by
Sequent Computer Systems, now IBM NUMA-Q. Under the arrangement, Willow will
provide ongoing technical support and maintenance for existing MQSeries for
DYNIX/ptx Version 1 customers. New versions of MQSeries for DYNIX/ptx will be
developed, marketed and supported by Willow Technology. A new version of
MQSeries for DYNIX/ptx using V5.1 source code licensed from IBM is being
developed.
Willow also announced the licensing of MQSeries for the Linux operating
system on non-Intel x86 architecture systems. The company will deliver MQSeries
for Linux on Alpha, SPARC, PowerPC, MIPS, PA-RISC and StrongARM systems over the
next twelve months. IBM will deliver MQSeries for Linux on Intel x86 platforms.
Initial delivery will support MQSeries Version 2 functions. Willow will deliver
Version 5.x functions shortly after IBM releases its Version 5.x MQSeries for
Linux.
"The addition of these new MQSeries platforms provides additional
critical mass to both MQSeries platform coverage as well as Willow’s role as
the leading independent provider of MQSeries platforms," said Gary Clueit,
CEO of Willow. "Our agreement with IBM to take over the DYNIX/ptx platform
ensures that it will continue to be fully supported and enhanced into the
future. With respect to MQSeries on Linux platforms, IBM will continue to
deliver the high volume Intel based Linux platform. Willow is targeting more
specialized Linux opportunities including embedded systems, process control and
high end server applicances where non-Intel hardware is prevalent."
