WILLOW TECHNOLOGY ENHANCES MQSERIES
FOR SCO OPENSERVER
New Version Supports Legacy
Applications
SANTA CLARA, California—August 31, 2001--Willow Technology, Inc., the leading
independent provider of MQSeries client and server products, announced today
that its new version of MQSeries for SCO OpenServer allows customers with legacy
OpenServer applications to easily integrate with MQSeries.
SCO OpenServer supports two development systems. The OpenServer
Development System (ODS) has been available for many years and is the
development environment used for the majority of OpenServer applications and
third party libraries. SCO introduced a new cross platform development system,
the UnixWare and OpenServer Development Kit (also referred to as the UDK or UODK), a few years ago. The goal of the UDK was to provide a common
development system for SCO OpenServer, UnixWare 2 and UnixWare 7. Binaries
created with the UDK are able to run unmodified on any of the three operating
systems. The binary formats supported by the ODS and UDK are different,
and cannot be mixed.
Previous versions of MQSeries on SCO OpenServer required customers to
interface their applications with MQSeries using the UDK. This has worked well
for new application development, and for those customers willing to move their
applications to the new development system. However, customers with large
application bases built on the older ODS, or those customers dependent on older
third parties libraries that do not support the UDK have faced expensive or
technically complex solutions to interfacing with MQSeries.
Version 5.0.5 of MQSeries for SCO OpenServer adds support for the OpenServer
Development System by providing ODS compatible coff format archive libraries and
elf format shared objects in addition to the existing UDK compatible libraries.
The new enhancements will make it vastly easier for customers dependent on the
ODS to integrate their applications with MQSeries.
Availability
Version 5.0.5 of Willow's MQSeries for SCO OpenServer will begin shipping
early in September, 2001. Customers with maintenance agreements will receive the
new version automatically.
