Willow Technology is a privately held software group headquartered in Douglas, Isle of Man, with a heritage in messaging middleware that reaches back to 1991.
Willow Technology, Inc. was founded in the United States in January 1991 by Gary Clueit, Don Breuner and Theresa Kolz. In 1993 and 1994, Mr Clueit acquired the shares of Ms Kolz and Mr Breuner. The company has been owned by Gary & Susan Clueit since then.
Willow's primary business is reliable messaging middleware for enterprise customers. In 1994, the company signed a source-code licensing agreement with IBM under which Willow would port the new MQ (formerly MQSeries and WebSphere MQ) software to computer platforms and operating systems that IBM itself could not support. Over the years, Willow has ported MQ to over 40 different platforms. The agreement with IBM continues to this day. In addition, Willow has built and supported MQ for companies such as Sequent (later acquired by IBM), Stratus (now Penguin Solutions) and IBM itself.
Willow has also developed its own line of MQ add-on products under the viaMQ brand.
In April 2018, Mr Clueit established a new company, Willow Technology (Isle of Man) Ltd., in Douglas to undertake research and development into emerging middleware messaging, security and artificial intelligence technologies. In October 2019 the Isle of Man company acquired Willow Technology, Inc., and responsibility for worldwide software development, product support and corporate management transitioned to the island.
Willow's products and services have supported business-critical functions at Global 2000 companies across industries in some 100 countries.
The company has always remained debt-free and has been profitable in every year of its operation.

Acquired from its early-stage investors in January 2005 and fully merged into Willow in December 2016, AirZip operates as a division specialising in enterprise rights management (FileSECURE) and image compression.
